MY STORY:

Hi, my name is Kei.

I'm 10 years old and currently in remission of Type 1 diabetes. I love Hands4Hope LA where learning is fun and full of healthy activities. I was diagnosed with this disease at 5 years old. I struggled a lot with it, having bad headaches, blurred vision and frequent trips to the bathroom. My mom tried everything, even when the doctors told her I needed to be hospitalized and put on insulin. Our fight had just begun. My doctor at the time didn't like my mom refusing hospitalized treatment. He called child services on her and tried to take me from my home. By this time she had gotten me a personal trainer, changed our eating habits and signed me up for football. I lost 17 lbs. in 3 1/2 weeks and my sugar level went from 190 to 80. I felt better, looked better and was free of headaches. Convinced God healed me with healthy eating & activities my Mom took me to a Specialist in Childhood Diabetes for a second opinion. When we received the results that I was in remission, my mom cried and we were so happy that we were determined our fight could not stop there. We are now partnering with Hands4Hope LA to help families struggling with this disease in our community. Please help support us. If I can do it, YOU can do it. Like my mom always says, "With God all things are possible." I say exercise helps too. Come walk with ME!

Thanks,

Kei
